Better Things

You got the job you always wanted. But the deadlines are tight and hours are long.
You added that extra class you need to graduate. But it's only available Saturday mornings.
You let someone skip you at lunch. But now they are out of what you were craving.

Let's call this being 'pleasantly dissatisfied.'
Because you're only halfway satisfied with the outcome.
Things could be better.

And part of the reason why they aren't, is because we settle for being pleasantly dissatisfied.
Placing our hope in things that can only provide a temporary fix.

Isaiah 58:11 reminds us why things are meant to be better.
In this scripture, God promises to continuously guide and satisfy our desires.
That we will be like a spring that never runs dry.

The promise to be satisfied is the promise to be full.
To have more than enough.

And all we have to do is believe.

Because being satisfied in God means loving Him for who He is.
It means you look forward to who you will become in Him, and welcome His way of bringing you there.
It means turning off the distractions of our culture, just to get grounded in His word.
It means trading an indifferent and reckless lifestyle for the confidence we gain from savoring His presence.

When you are truly satisfied in God, things get better because you are better.
So let's not pretend to be satisfied with things that will leave us longing for more.

After all, those things are just things.
They aren't Him.
