Everything Is Better

Everything is better on a road trip.
That outdated corner store becomes a jackpot of Instagram posts.
The cup of coffee you had at the local diner was to die for.
And all the cheesy pictures you took with hats, sunglasses and road signs, are now your priceless memories.

If I could pretend to be a psychologist, I'd say it's human nature to long for the 'better'.
For the things that money can't buy and the stories that you just had to be there for.
For that feeling you get when you just know.

Abraham knew exactly what that felt like.
Out of everyone in the bible, I feel like he was given one of the most outrageous promises.
God told him he'd be the "Father of many nations".
As incredible as that sounds, keeping the belief that it would come to pass I'm sure wasn't the easiest.
But he did it.

Romans 4: 18 says, "Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him..."

He hoped.
He believed.
And so he became what was promised to him.

By far one of my favorite scriptures! Because it's reality!
When our circumstances don't match our promise we can sit and shrink back in our doubt, or we can believe in hope, against all hope.

You can't have one without the other.
You can't just say your hopeful.
But in hope ---meaning, rejecting anything that's not aligned with the promise, you believe for what's next.
Because you can't let the limited perspective of a moment dictate what the rest of your life will look like.

Verse 21 moves on to say that Abraham was, "fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised."

So instead of letting your past mistakes or your current frustrations fog your vision, believe for more.
Everyone knows the best things in life are worth fighting for.
And the good news is, that's the only thing God knows how to give.
The absolute best.
