LEST: for fear that; so that (one) should not.
“Lest We Forget” was a phrase popularized in the 1800s.
Patterns during those times showed nations that would rise to wealth and power were inclined to forget their God.
As a result, after World War I, the phrase became a plea not to forget past sacrifices; and so it was often engraved onto war memorials.
Our culture nowadays, engages in a lifestyle that makes it easy to forget things. Important things.
That’s why as technology advances, tools that help us remember become more convenient and portable.
We practically carry our lives at our fingertips.
Forgetting, while common, is also a thief of truth.
More specifically, working with fear and anxiety to drown out the promises that have been spoken by the One who holds our future.
Deut. 4:9 warns, “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live.”
So when the pressures of our circumstances try to convince us that this time around God has forgotten or changed His mind, don’t give in.
Remember that His way is better.
That His love is endless.
That His resources are limitless.
And that He’s never left anything unfinished.
So why would He start now?
We can’t afford to forget His faithfulness, because remembering it leads the way to everything He’s promised.
